EKITI SPEAKER, LAWMAKERS, CONSTITUENTS OKAY GOVERNOR OYEBANJI FOR SECOND TERM AT SPECIAL PLENARY

Your Assembly Has Set a New Record in Legislation, Says Oyebanji

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye has received the support of fellow lawmakers and the people of Ekiti State for Governor Biodun Oyebanji to continue in office for another four years.

This endorsement followed a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Moba Constituency 2, Hon. Jacob Awoniyi, and seconded by his colleague, Abimbola Solanke, at a Special Plenary held at Fajuyi Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti to mark the second anniversary of the 7th Assembly.

The special session, tagged "Taking Parliament to the People," was initiated by the state legislature as a means of encouraging public participation and making the business of lawmaking more transparent and comprehensible to the electorate.

The motion, which requested that Ekiti people present be allowed to be part of the process, and which sought to extend the social contract the governor signed with the people till 2030, following his satisfactory performance in office, was subsequently put to a general voice vote by the Speaker.

The call was greeted by a resounding “yes” from both the lawmakers and the large crowd of constituents in attendance.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Speaker reviewed the various achievements of the Assembly over the past 24 months: the laws passed, motions raised, and the support and cooperation received from the Governor, adding that the year ahead would witness more responsible and goal-driven legislation and oversight.

Aribasoye appreciated the Governor for his performance in office and for the respect and support accorded to the legislature, commending his fellow lawmakers and the spouses of members for their contributions to a successful and productive 7th Assembly.

Dignitaries in attendance took turns to applaud the exemplary and trailblazing initiatives of the Aribasoye-led 7th Assembly, describing their activities as reasoned, seasoned, progress-driven, sacrificial, and pace-setting.

The 7th Assembly, which clinched the Presidency's award as the Best State Legislature in ICT Integration across Nigeria, has, within two years, raised more than 60 important resolutions and passed 24 bills into law.

At the Special Plenary, the Governor also assented to an additional six bills.

In his address, Governor Oyebanji, while promising continued collaboration with the Assembly for the benefit of constituents, underlined the importance of the new laws he had just signed.

He also remarked that that the 7th Assembly had set a new pace in the number and quality of laws passed within two years, adding that no assembly has matched that in the history of the State.

The Governor added that the milestones of the 7th Assembly highlight its resilience and unswerving commitment to their various constituencies.

The Special Plenary was attended by top government figures, including the Deputy Governor, members of the Executive Council, Head of Service, the acting Chief Judge,  traditional rulers, heads of key institutions, student union groups, artisans, and constituents from across the state.
