EKITI SPEAKER CAUTIONS CONTRACTORS, DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY AND BETTER COMPLIANCE

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, on Tuesday held a crucial meeting with contractors handling various state projects, insisting on stronger accountability, transparency, and respect for legislative oversight.

The Speaker invited the Managing Directors and representatives of contracting firms to the interface to address growing concerns about poor responsiveness and inadequate accountability from some contractors.

Addressing the gathering, Aribasoye noted that for the past two and a half years, the House has worked collaboratively with the executive arm to ensure development across the state.

The Speaker expressed displeasure that some contractors reportedly behave as though their projects are beyond scrutiny, describing such an attitude as unacceptable.

He reiterated to the contractors that the legislature is constitutionally empowered to appropriate funds and ensure value for every public money spent, warning that the House of Assembly will not allow itself to be undermined by any individual or company.

He stressed that every project funded by the state must meet the highest standards and remain open to inspection and evaluation at all stages, adding that completed projects are not exempt from inspection to ensure compliance.

“Henceforth, any contractor that tries to undermine this House will be blacklisted. This House has the power to blacklist any contractor who has not done their job as specified. I’m not asking for anything but for you to do your job the way it should be done", Aribasoye stated.

The meeting, which the Speaker described as more of a family session, was aimed at putting all contractors on their toes and reminding them of their obligations to the government and the people of Ekiti State.

Rt. Hon. Aribasoye reaffirmed that the House of Assembly under his watch will not fail in its role of ensuring proper oversight, accountability, and transparency.

He pointed out that Governor Oyebanji has also thrown his weight behind the Assembly in its quest to ensure that funds appropriated are appropriately utilized.
