VISION-DRIVEN STATES MUST HARNESS OPPORTUNITIES IN ARTS AND CULTURE - ARIBASOYE

The time has come for forward thinking states to maximize the opportunities embedded in the arts and culture sector for economic growth and identity projection.

This formed part of the remarks by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, who represented Governor Biodun Oyebanji at the opening session of the 2025 Ekiti State Festival of Arts and Culture, held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Declaring the festival open on behalf of the governor,  the Speaker described the transformation in the state’s arts and culture sector as impressive and encouraging.

He commended the Director of the festival, Prof. Ojo Bakare, for his giant strides and impactful contributions during his tenure as Commissioner in the Ministry.

Rt. Hon. Aribasoye also highlighted the past and potential benefits of the festival, including job creation, economic advancement, investment promotion, and talent development, among other gains.

Expressing concern over the gradual erosion of culture and tradition in society, the legislator advocated deliberate efforts toward cultural preservation, connection with origin, and the rediscovery of identity.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Barr. Bamidele Arowosola, emphasized the harmony and peace enjoyed in Ekiti State, linking it to the people’s respect for arts, culture, and core values, which the festival continually projects.

He applauded the exemplary leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, noting that sound leadership has played a crucial role in earning Ekiti recognition as one of the best two states in national cultural events.
