The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has hailed the passion of the state Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, for agricultural development and youth empowerment.
Governor Oyebanji had, over the weekend, visited Oke Ako in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State to distribute cheques to compensate those whose lands and plantations were acquired for the 'Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture' programme.
A total of four thousand hectares were allotted to young farmers under the scheme, done in partnership with YSP Farm.
Rt. Hon. Aribasoye noted that Oke Ako and Ikole Local Government, in general, as a major part of the Special Agriculture Processing Zone in the state, are well positioned to enhance food security and exhibit meaningful youth engagement.
The Speaker commended Governor Oyebanji for walking his talk with the compensation of 146 million naira paid to about 46 landowners.
The event also witnessed the operational display of machinery to be used for the scheme and the inauguration of tractors, ploughing equipment, and irrigation machinery, among others.
Meanwhile, the Speaker had recently challenged youths in the state to warmly embrace agriculture and embrace innovation and modern revolution to solve complex problems.
Addressing the Ekiti Youth Parliament at their first anniversary plenary in Ado Ekiti, Aribasoye said the actions taken by the members of the youth parliament at this time would reflect how the future will look.
He counselled them to make an impact and ensure proper evaluation of the results of their activities, adding that young people must endeavour to build enviable profiles for themselves.
Commending Governor Oyebanji for his solid commitment to youth development, the Assembly helmsman advised the youths to take a cue from the current 7th Ekiti State House of Assembly by embarking on actions driven toward legacies and values.
